Comprehensive Eye Exams

At King Eye Care, we are dedicated to assisting you in preserving your clear eyesight at every stage of life. Cataracts are among the most common eye conditions affecting your ability to see, especially as you age. The good news is that with early detection and medical treatment, your vision—and your quality of life—can be saved.

What Is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

A dilated eye examination assesses your visual system to ensure your eyes are healthy. While enjoying all the features of our testing center, our King Eye Care doctors also perform a medical evaluation of the interior and exterior of your eyes to look for early warning signs of conditions such as eye diseases and other medical conditions that can impact your vision.

During your visit, we assess:

  • Visual acuity and refractive error testing are needed, as well as the need for spectacles.
  • Eye coordination and focus are essential to ensure your eyes work together correctly.
  • The condition of the retina, optic nerve, and cornea, as well as problems that have early indications in things like glaucoma or retinal detachment.
  • Eye pressure readings to use to help diagnose glaucoma.
  • Testing for cataracts, macular degeneration, and other common age-related eye diseases.
  • Systemic health conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can sometimes be detected during an eye exam.

Why Are Regular Eye Exams Important?

Eye exams are not just for those who need glasses or contact lenses. You may not think you have a vision problem, but many eye diseases, such as symptoms or pain, offer no warning signs. Identifying and treating these problems early can save your sight and avoid more serious complications.

Our tests also offer a window into your overall health. Conditions, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and some cancers, can show signs in your eyes before symptoms of the illness develop. Frequent tests help you keep track of your eye health and overall health.

How Often Should You Get a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

We recommend:

  • Adults (18-64 from there): Every 1-2 years or as prescribed by your eye care provider.
  • Seniors (65 or more years old): Once per year.
  • Children and adolescents: Routine screening begins at 6 months, before starting school, and every 1 to 2 years afterward.
