Cataracts

At King Eye Care, we are dedicated to assisting you in preserving your clear eyesight at every stage of life. Cataracts are among the most common eye conditions affecting your ability to see, especially as you age. The good news is that with early detection and medical treatment, your vision—and your quality of life—can be saved.

What Are Cataracts?

Cataracts develop as a clouding of the clear lens of your eye, causing a progressive decline in vision. The lens, which sits behind the iris and the pupil, helps focus light to the back of the eye — the retina — to produce sharp images. As cataracts develop, the lens grows cloudy and less transparent, deflecting light and causing people to see in blur or dimness.

Although cataracts generally form slowly and without pain, they impair daily activities like reading, driving, and identifying faces.

Common Symptoms of Cataracts

Symptoms of cataracts Cataracts may cause:

  • Tones appear hazy or flat — colors can look washed out or less affluent.
  • You may see foggy, hazy , or cloudy while trying to catch.
  • Difficulty recognizing blues and purples — a shift in color perception, particularly in identifying certain hues.
  • Difficulty seeing at night or in dim light — night vision weakens, and activities such as driving after dark can be problematic.
  • Light and glare sensitivity: Bright lights, sunlight, or headlights can worsen things.
  • When light sources cause halos to appear — rings or halos may develop around light sources.
  • Changing eyeglasses prescription frequently — vision fluctuates often, requiring new lenses sooner than usual.

If you have any of these symptoms, you need to see an eye doctor. The sooner you find the problem, the sooner we can help you decide how best to treat it and protect your vision.

How Are Cataracts Treated?

The only known cure for cataracts is surgery, in which the clouded lens is removed and replaced by a clear artificial lens (also known as an intraocular lens implant). Cataract surgery is a widely performed, successful procedure globally and provides a safe, effective means to restore clear vision.
